ROMANCE IN SEYCHELLES

Weddings in Seychelles

A practical starting point for couples considering a Seychelles wedding, from choosing an island and venue to arranging the details around the ceremony.

Seychelles is naturally suited to destination weddings, with beaches, tropical gardens, dramatic granite landscapes and private-island settings. The practical requirements matter just as much as the setting, so confirm current legal, venue and supplier arrangements before booking.

Choosing an Island for a Wedding

Mahé

Mahé offers the widest choice of accommodation, restaurants, venues, suppliers and transport. It is the most convenient option for couples expecting guests to travel from different countries.

Praslin

Praslin provides a quieter setting with beautiful beaches, nature and resort options, while remaining practical for guests who want more than a resort-only stay.

La Digue

La Digue offers a distinctive small-island atmosphere and can suit intimate celebrations where the island experience itself is part of the occasion.

Private Islands

Private-island settings can provide exceptional privacy and exclusivity, but availability, guest logistics and transfer arrangements need careful planning.

Wedding Venues & Settings

Possible settings include beaches, gardens, resort grounds, private villas and other specialist venues. Ask the venue about ceremony requirements, weather contingencies, guest capacity, sound, photography, dining and transport.

Legal & Practical Requirements

Wedding regulations and documentation requirements can change. Couples should confirm the current requirements with the relevant Seychelles authorities, their wedding planner and the chosen venue before travelling.

Getting Married in Seychelles: What Does It Cost?

The setting shapes the budget far more than the paperwork does. Official fees are modest; what moves the total is the venue, the photography and where you and your guests stay. As a rough guide, a simple beach ceremony can be arranged for around €1,000–€3,000, a mid-range resort package typically starts from €3,000–€4,500, a five-star ceremony package from about €5,000, and a fully produced luxury celebration can reach €20,000 or more. All figures exclude flights and are indicative, based on published resort and planner rates reviewed in October 2026, so ask for an itemised quote before you commit.

The official fees

Civil registration is handled by the Civil Status Office. When two foreign nationals marry on Mahé, Praslin or La Digue, the fee is SCR 3,000 (around €200, depending on the exchange rate); on any other island it is SCR 4,000, and the couple also covers the registrar’s travel, accommodation and meals. If one of you is Seychellois, a ceremony outside the Civil Status Office costs SCR 1,500. The banns are published for 11 days before the wedding, and a special licence (SCR 500) is available if you need to shorten that. Most couples also ask a planner or their resort to handle the apostilled documents and coordination, and packages for the legal formalities commonly start from around €800.

Documents and paperwork for foreign couples

For two foreign nationals, the Civil Status Office asks for the registration form, both birth certificates, clear copies of both passports and, where relevant, divorce certificates or the death certificate of a previous spouse. All documents must be apostilled or authenticated; countries outside the Apostille Convention have them authenticated by their foreign ministry. If one of you is Seychellois, the foreign partner also provides an apostilled birth certificate and celibacy certificate, a police character certificate, a permit of stay and one passport-size photo. The police certificate can be collected from a Seychelles police station if you have been in the country for six months or more. The banns are published for eleven days before the wedding; to marry sooner, a marriage licence costs SCR 500 and needs the Chief Officer’s approval. You can marry at the Civil Status Office or "at home" (outside the office) with at least one week’s notice. Requirements can change, so check the official Civil Status page or write to info@civilstatus.gov.sc before you travel.

Budget: roughly €1,000–€3,000 for the ceremony

A beach ceremony arranged by a local planner usually covers the officiant or coordinator, a bouquet, simple décor and a short photo session, with packages commonly priced from about €1,100 to €1,600. Guesthouses and self-catering apartments start from around €70 a night, so this tier suits small, intimate weddings and couples who would rather put their money into the trip itself.

Mid-range: from about €3,000

Ceremony packages at mid-range and upscale resorts typically start from about €3,000–€4,500 and usually include the setup, a coordinator, a celebrant, a two-tier cake, sparkling wine and a decorated room on the wedding night. A professional photographer is normally extra, from a few hundred euros for a short session to several thousand for a full day, so it is worth deciding early how much of the day you want captured.

High-end: from about €5,000

At five-star resorts, ceremony packages generally begin between €5,000 and €9,500, and a fully produced wedding day with dinner, music and styling can reach €20,000–€35,000. Private villas and island estates are priced on request, and rooms at luxury properties start from around €900 a night. Expect rates to rise by roughly 20–35% in peak periods such as December–January and July–August, while April and November often offer the best value; our Best Time to Visit Seychelles guide will help you choose your dates.

What moves the budget

Guest numbers, photography and video, inter-island transfers, and weekend or public-holiday dates are the usual drivers. Transfers and accommodation for guests often add up faster than expected, so build them into the budget from the start. As always, confirm the current fees with the Civil Status Office and your planner before you travel.

Planning for Wedding Guests

If friends and family are travelling with you, consider accommodation, airport transfers, island transfers, meals and activities as part of the overall plan. A convenient base can make a significant difference when guests have different budgets or mobility needs.

Photography & Weather

Seychelles provides extraordinary wedding photography opportunities, but tropical weather can change quickly. Build a realistic backup plan for rain, wind and sea conditions rather than relying on a single outdoor arrangement.

After the Ceremony
